Two murders in two weeks and the police believe they have a turf war between local drug gangs. Surveillance is stepped up to monitor drug-related activities in two of Salisbury’s more notorious housing estates, so police resources are already stretched thin without the disappearance of a vulnerable adult.
Twenty-two-year-old Stephen Watts is both autistic and an incredible artist, often seen around Salisbury sketching people and places. So, when he disappears right after the second murder, everyone is concerned for his welfare. Did he fall prey to the drug gangs, perhaps having witnessed something he shouldn’t have? Unfortunately, the police have no leads.
Kayla Higginbotham, a care assistant at Britford Lodge, finds the second murder victim as well as being Stephen’s neighbour, so she feels personally involved in the case. She turns to amateur sleuths Meg and Lauren. Meg isn’t convinced that Stephen is dead, so Lauren calls in her friend Jed to help them investigate. As they uncover more suspects and motives, the questions multiply. Did Stephen simply run away or was he abducted? If he’s dead, did he commit suicide or was he murdered? Family and friends alike fall under suspicion.
