What’s happening?
As you know (if you've looked at the rest of the website), books one and two of The Salisbury Murders are out there and available to buy / read / review, and book three is currently at the publishers being prepared for an autumn release. So what else am I working on?
I finished writing the first draft of book four (The Mystery of the Missing Bequest) in April and sent it to my friend Dawn, who is my unofficial developmental editor. After I received her feedback, I did some heavy editing to bring it up to scratch. Now it is sitting on the sidelines, waiting until after book three's publication before I do any more to it. This is deliberate, because often you only spot errors when you go back to something after a time away from it.
I've also spent the last two months (on and off) doing research for book five. This is going to be quite a departure, in so far as I am using an actual well-known location for the setting of the crime - Salisbury Cathedral! This involved a visit to the cathedral, a meeting with the Librarian and Archivist, and chatting to two of the cathedral's excellent tour guides. Plus a later zoom meeting with the head of flower arranging in the cathedral, because the story will be set during the Flower Festival. Using real locations and real events requires a lot more research than simply making stuff up in your head! But it's also really interesting! I've also had to do a lot of research around one of the cathedral's icons that is about to go missing ... can you guess the title of book five yet?
It had been my intention to not start writing book five until after I'd finished the copy editing and page proof stages of publishing book three. But with so many ideas flying around inside my head, and a prologue screaming at me to be written, I had to make a start. Watch this space for more updates!
